About Me

C'est moiWho is this person anyway?

The pithy version:

From Janine Donoho’s birth in luminous San Francisco to her Annie Oakley kidhood in Nevada, she grows into a human who designs her own clothes and wanders where curiosity leads her. When her spaniel Pete saves her baby butt from rolling out of a careening car, Janine learns that she bonds easily with furry critters. Thus her degree in biology—and her penchant for rescued sighthounds and pond kitties. As scholarship student, then Snow Queen and Military Ball Queen nominee, Janine learns to cope with the limelight. Costumes help.

Her flair for applied design comes in handy, too—dance and choreography captivate her. Science-heavy degrees mean careers in test engineering and biology. Along the way, she refines the art of the scribble. This leads to her discovery that writing can flourish between the cracks as Janine finishes short stories, essays, and eight novels in a haze of full-time work nested with wifely- and mommy-induced exhaustion.

Janine’s writing continues to garner awards, but that’s not why she writes. She writes to howl the pack into existence—to join a temporary herd. She revels in her current opportunity to write, design drought- and deer-resistant gardens, and break into spontaneous dance. Janine makes her home with her intrepid husband, Italian greyhound and whippet in the spectacular wine region of Walla Walla of Washington State. Mountain lions, coyotes, and civil humans—oh, my!

Unfortunately, I have never found one of your books, yet; although I admit that I have not been looking very hard. While I’m a ferocious reader, I have never been a writer (although I’ve been tempted). My all-time favourite writer of “fantasy” happens to be Zenda Henderson; I bet, you never heard of her – right?

I think Zenda wrote dystopian sci-fi? Been a while since I read her… I’ve had a few sci-fi stories published, but my novels mostly trend fantasy–either epic or contemporary. If you’re interested in reading, you can download Kindle for PCs as offered on my pages, then choose novels. It’s great fun, especially during these winter cave days.

….my first and only literary effort won national acclaim…..a cinquain, submitted by my drama teacher to a periodical searching for uncommon talent via contest. Venue offering cash, scholarships, academic acclaim, READ magazine whose [i know] pages graced faculty break rooms and lay buried, spooned with The Ladies Home Journal in wicker baskets from coast to coast. Why, what, how could one make a living putting pen to paper…besides I had a two year free ride …playing ball. Journalism, aahh no, maybe after my brilliant career as a Yankee ace a screenplay..

Poor, frustrated high school lit. teachers. I shoulda listened to you Ms. Byrd.
